Mid February I met up with photopal, Chad Routhier, for a week shooting in Death Valley. We toured all over the valley, but the stunning sandscape called the Mesquite Dunes kept luring us in. Sunrises, sunsets..midday..East, West..North, South..the possibilities were endless. Though the possibilities were endless and this was our 5th time wandering these particular dunes, I still struggled finding something as the sunset was lighting up the sky. An ideal comp pointing towards where the sun was setting was destroyed by footprints but when I looked to the North I saw the sky in a fury of magenta and purple with the sand reflecting the wonderful colors..but the best part..footprint free! Though not the comp I was after, I felt it showcases many aspects that the dunes holds, from its wavy lines and smooth curves, to its patches of black sand, small foliage bunches and the mountains that surround..an almost otherwordly place.
